Lake City High Deca Chapter Receives Recognition

The Lake City High School DECA Chapter, with Russ Blank as adviser, won recognition at the State Career Development Conference earlier this month.

Students competed in role-playing situations along with general marketing, economic, and occupational tests and written project submissions.

Jennifer Nier placed sixth in the Quick Serve Restaurant category, and Jim Teston took third place in the Vehicles and Petroleum category.

Lake City had 10 national qualifiers in the written events. Sean Haler and Brian Kelso, second place, Business and Finance Research; Amy Reynolds and Courtney Zimmerman, first place, Food Marketing Research; Tricia Craft, and Melissa Davisson, first place, Creative Marketing; Robert Pickering and Jim Teston, first place, International Marketing; Norm Norland, second place Entrepreneurship; and Brandon Taylor, first place, Advertising Campaign.

The students will now compete in Denver with their written projects.

Lakeland Junior High School has announced the Students of the Month for February.

Cassidy Seeley, ninth-grader and daughter of Rick and Muriel Badgley of Rathdrum; Casey Ponti, eighth-grader and daughter of Jeff and Holly Ponti of Athol; and Amanda Hooker, seventh-grader and daughter of Brian and Teresa Hooker of Hayden Lake.

Students are chosen based on academic progress, interpersonal skills, willingness to learn and activity involvement. They receive a Lakeland Hawks sweatshirt donated by Rathdrum businesses, Stein’s IGA and First Security Bank.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative has received the national Community Service Award for outstanding achievement in its efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for North Idaho children.

KEC received recognition for several youth programs, including the Youth Energy Seminar, a program for high-school age students fostering awareness of the cooperative, school assembly programs and involvement in 4-H, D.A.R.E., Idaho Drug Free Youth, and Prevent Alcohol Related Krashes (PARK).
