Ccs Splits Two In Baseball; Moore Leads Whit Women

Community Colleges of Spokane split two non-league baseball games Monday in Phoenix.

The Sasquatch (3-4) scored seven runs in the first three innings en route to a 9-3 victory over Chemeketa, Ore., but dropped a 17-5 decision to Central Arizona.

Aaron Vandawarka and Eric Garma of CCS each had a two RBIs in the first game.

Steve Jackson had two RBIs on 3-for-4 hitting, including a home run, in the second game. Teammate Adam Munson-Young had two doubles and 2 RBIs.

CCS defeated Glendale 11-10 Sunday and continues in Arizona today against Skagit Valley.

Washington State’s last game of a four-game series against Pac-10 North rival Oregon State was rained out in Pullman. The game will be rescheduled as a fifth game when the teams meet in Corvallis April 24-26.

College softball

Whitworth (4-11) opened play in the Sun West Tournament with a 16-2 victory over College St. Catherine (0-3) in Orange, Calif.

Traci Moore had three RBIs in the first inning on a single and a double as the Pirates raced out to a 10-0 lead.

Moore also pitched a five-inning five-hitter with five strikeouts.

Penelope Pearson had three hits, including an RBI double in the third inning, for the Pirates.

GSL soccer

Brian Crane and Matt Folsom each had a goal and an assist as Mead (3-2) defeated visiting Rogers in a muddy and rainy non-league match.

Brendon Fickenscher and Robert Rowland teamed on two first-half goals in host Lewis and Clark’s (3-1) 4-0 victory over Central Valley.

At Ferris, North Central’s Eric Johnson, Owen Turnbull and Dustin Allbery scored in the shootout as the Indians defeated Saxons 2-1.

Garth Cummings gave Ferris a 1-0 lead in overtime before NC’s Aaron Fielder scored with less than a minute left to send it into the shootout. Ferris had 30 shots on goal compared to NC’s nine. Brad Cushman had 13 saves for NC.

Ty Pfundheller had a goal and an assist as Shadle Park (4-0) beat Mt. Spokane 2-1 at the North Complex.

Junior forward Grant Falco had two second-half goals as University (3-1) rallied to a 3-1 victory over Gonzaga Prep.

Titans keeper Kevin Mace stopped 12 of 13 shots. Spencer Leonard had the Bullpups’ goal.
