Get Out Your Camera, You May Win A Prize
It’s not too early to start taking photos for a local competition next year.
The Friends of Manito Park sponsor an annual competition and the deadline is Jan. 15, 1999. The photos must be identifiably Manito Park and Gardens. Many entrants prefer the park when it’s in full bloom.
The winner in each of the two categories - adult and youth - receives $200, the second-place award is $100, and third-place winners receive $50.
For complete rules and an entry form, contact Kerry Wiltzius, The Friends of Manito coordinator, 456-8038.
Choose paint carefully
Dutch Boy has come up with a weather-beating protective paint that’s formulated for five different regions of the country.
Dubbed Climate Guard, its chemical properties are specifically designed for high humidity areas, desert dry areas, areas of massive temperature swings, areas of drenching rains and areas of extreme weather conditions.
The areas for which they’re formulated are the Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, Sun Belt and Heartland.

Pillow talk
A Johns Hopkins University study funded by a pillow company concludes that, contrary to what your doctor may have told you, down comforters and feather pillows aren’t what’s making you sneeze. The Pacific Coast Feather Company-funded study, to be presented at an American academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Annual Meeting, says allergens are no more or less likely to collect in clean feather and down environments than in synthetic materials.
Keep your distance
A toothbrush near the toilet may be hazardous to your health. When you flush the toilet, a tiny, invisible cloud of “germy” water shoots 6 feet into the air, reports Jump, a magazine for teens and young women. Make sure your toilet articles are at least 7 feet away.
