Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Every spring we are invaded by crickets. Not only do they cause damage to woolen clothing, they also keep us up at night. What can we use to rid ourselves of these pests, either permanently or at least to discourage them from returning? Richard B.

You’re right, they are annoying and they damage things like bookbindings as well as silk, woolen and cotton materials.

Most crickets lay eggs in the soil and then come springtime they hatch, but there is something you can do about them.

Commercial bait used to kill crickets and other insects is available at your local nursery. It can be sprinkled around the house; the crickets eat it and they die. Be sure to read the directions carefully, especially if you have small children or pets, to make sure the product is safe.- Heloise
