Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Dustin Newlun

Alpine skiing/snowboarding The Big Red Schweitzer Challenge will roll into Schweitzer Resort on Monday for fast skiers and boarders interested in some action. Entry fee is $32, which covers a party at the Pend Oreille Brew Pub in Sandpoint, dinner Tuesday, a Challenge T-shirt and all prizes and awards. Tuesday is race day with an awards dinner following. Info: (208) 263-9555.

With 7 feet of snow at the summit, Mount Spokane is still in operation. Trails are machine-groomed and the terrain is excellent.

Snow riders have a chance to ski or board up to seven days at Schweitzer Mountain for $75. The Spring Break Pass went on sale this week and the offer is good through Easter Sunday, the resort’s last day of the season. Students and seniors with I.D. can buy a pass for $45. Info: (208) 263-9555.

Nordic skiing

Despite warm weather, snow is still plentiful on Mount Spokane. Rangers are still blazing trails on a snowmobile with an attached groomer until the end of the month. The Methow Valley has ceased grooming as of last Sunday and is not charging for ski trail passes any longer. However, skiing is still available in the Mazama and Sun Mountain areas, but the snow is melting fast.

Snowmobiling

Snow is getting thin for sleds in the area, but at Old Mission State Park, trails are still being groomed from the Fish Hatchery near Mullan over to Lookout Pass. Snow on Bumblehead, Steamboat and other trails in the lower elevations has begun to melt.
