Interested in hosting a French student? LEC, a French non-profit organization is now looking for Spokane and North Idaho families that are willing to open their doors to French students. For more information, call Mary Benham at 747-0692.

Raft the St. Joe River with other teens and professional guides. The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department is offering a one-day trip, May 17, for people ages 14 and older. Those going must meet at the Exxon Gas Station in St. Regis, Mont., at 9 a.m. on the day of the trip. Cost is $87. Registration deadline is April 13. For more information, call 625-6200.

ARTS, the national Arts Recognition and Talent Search program is looking for student artists who are high school seniors or 17 or 18 years old. All applicants are eligible for a piece of about $3 million in scholarships to various colleges and arts programs, and 125 artists will be invited to participate in ARTS Week ‘99, Jan. 5-11, in Miami. ARTS Week offers performances, master classes, workshops, readings, exhibits and enrichment activities with renowned artists and educators. All expenses are paid. Do you wow your friends with your culinary skills? Teens ages 13 to 18 are eligible to enter the National Cheese Institute’s recipe contest. Submit recipes featuring one or more cheeses, as well as ingredients from at least two of the four other food groups. Recipes can be for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks. The best overall recipe wins a $2,500 U.S. savings bond and a $500 gift certificate towards fitness equipment. Three other winners will receive $1,000 savings bonds and a $250 gift certificates.
