Gu Summer Course Examines Religious Right
“Religion and the Radical Right” will examine the world view of America’s extremist groups, including the Aryan Nation, during Gonzaga University’s first summer session, May 18-June 5.
The class is geared for clergy, lay people and law enforcement officers. Readings for the course will include materials from the KKK, Aryan Nations, Christian Identity and Christian Patriot groups, as well as analytical essays from their critics. Ties between religion and the groups’ extremist beliefs will also be examined.
Cost for the class, 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday, is $540 for noncredit; for college credit, the fee is $915.

Bloomsday service in Lilac Bowl
A nondenominational Bloomsday Worship service will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Sunday in Riverfront Park’s Lilac Bowl.
This is the 18th year Russell Brown has organized the event which has drawn crowds between 50 and 1,000.
A Friend in concert
Grammy-winner Terry Blackwood will perform at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the Spokane Faith Center, 3330 W. Central.
Blackwood, lead singer for the vocal group Friend IV, has also been nominated for five other Grammy awards and 10 Dove awards. The contemporary Christian singer has also performed with the Imperials and Andrus, Blackwood & Co.
“Honeymoon with Jesus”
Full Gospel Mission for All Nations, 1912 E. First, will sponsor “A Honeymoon With Jesus” for those whose spouses have died, next Friday and Saturday.
The event is designed to give people who have lost a husband or wife an opportunity to share with others and be strengthened.
Sessions will be 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday; and 9 a.m.-noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday.

JoggerThon
Spokane Youth for Christ will host a family picnic and JoggerThon from 4 to 7 p.m. May 30 at Sullivan Park in the Valley.
Participants will collect pledges and jog, run or walk a 2-mile or 10k-course along the Centennial Trail, followed by a barbecue, games and music for the whole family.
Registration deadline is May 15 for both the run and barbecue, or for the barbecue alone.
Cost of the meal is $5; there is no fee for the walk.

Prayerwalk
Participants in Prayerwalk will trek eight blocks on East Sprague at 6 p.m. next Saturday, asking for God’s grace and protection over the neighborhood.
Participants will gather first at the Full Gospel Mission for All Nations, 1912 E. First.

Day of Prayer
A National Day of Prayer service will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Clock Tower in Riverfront Park.
Several area churches will provide music and prayer.
The public is invited “to come when you can and leave when you have to,” said Joanne Van Buskirk, spokeswoman.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Harvest Christian Fellowship, 1316 N. Lincoln.
Aglow reunion
“Mothers in Israel” is the theme of the Spokane Aglow Reunion at 11 a.m. next Saturday at Day’s Inn Sierra Restaurant, 4212 W. Sunset Blvd.
Memories of early group activities will be shared by members Jackie McKee, “Jonnie” Jones, Diane Morse, LaVonne Burdick and others.
