Battle Of The Execs?

Women executives in the entertainment industry weighed in on how male and female management styles differ. One of the partners in a TV production company (which produces “The Cosby Show” among others), Marcy Carsey, had this to say in The New Yorker magazine: “Men gravitate toward the power concept: ‘How many people report to me? What do I reign over? How visible am I?’ “

Carsey agreed with other women execs about offices, which they say men love and women don’t. “There’s a desk that you can sit behind, kind of a power spot. There’s a chair that’s kind of made of leather. There’s a view. There’s a uniform you wear, and it has a tie and a shirt and a suit brown or black. You feel that you put on your uniform, you come to your power place and you know who you are and that you’re safe.”

”(Men) find comfort in that,” agrees Carsey’s partner Caryn Mandabach, “whereas I don’t think women would.” (From April 20 New Yorker)

Jane, Jane, Jane, this is America, girl: The always outspoken Jane Fonda apologized after an address to the United Nations in which she compared the state of Georgia to a Third World country, noting that in northern Georgia, “children are starving to death. People live in tar-paper shacks with no indoor plumbing.”

The remark incensed Georgia Gov. Zell Miller, who lofted a shot back at Fonda: “Maybe the view from your (Atlanta) penthouse apartment is not as clear as it needs to be.” (From April 27 Time)

Please, someone get the man a spinmeister: During a recent daylong interview in Los Angeles with Ruby Wax, a British-based journalist, O.J. Simpson’s musings ranged from his wet dreams in prison to “how the availability of women now is more than ever in my life.” After the interview, he charmed Wax even further by lunging out from behind a door and making stabbing motions at her with a banana. Note to Simpson no one’s laughing. (From April 27 Time)

Margaret Trudeau Kemper, the Canadian partygirl who set a high standard for having a great time in the ‘70s when she was the wife of former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau, is blaming menopause for her deteriorating mental health. “I thought my usefulness was finished. After all, I believed my job on Earth was to procreate and be a pleasant sexual diversion for hardworking men.” (From April 27 Newsweek)
