This is an undated promotional brochure printed by Ladies’ Home Journal showing Baker City, Ore., resident Leo Adler when 10 with his dog Prince. Adler, who came from simple beginnings, built a business that distributed magazines across the Northwest. He gained a reputation as hard-drinking eccentric who lived simply, loved baseball and liked to hang around the firehouse. On his death, he left his $20 million fortune to the people of Baker City.
