Idaho Fish and Game Department

Idaho sportsmen’s groups recently called for Idaho Fish and Game Director Stephen Mealey to resign.

The Panhandle’s Wildlife Council and the Idaho State Bowhunters said Mealey had lost his credibility.

The groups are critical of the way the director handled a new elk management plan, the department’s stance on an Air Force training range, the agency’s troubled efforts to raise money and a proposal to log part of the South Fork of the Salmon.

And they’re still disillusioned that the director said he would drop his pants in public to moon a piece of art on Lake Pend Oreille.

The state Fish and Game commission responded to the concerns by giving Mealey a high performance rating and a 3.7 percent pay raise.
