George Petticrew blew down Blue Mountain on Tuesday.

Petticrew (8-1) pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering eight hits, as Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Blue Mountain Community College 4-0 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader at Spokane Falls Community College.

Petticrew, selected by the Kansas City Royals last June in a draft-and-follow agreement, struck out four and walked none. Gavin Hare and Trek Davis each went 2 for 3, with doubles, to support Petticrew.

The visiting Timberwolves won the second game 10-4, as Jake Medlock threw a complete game and Hector Torres went 4 for 5. Aaron Vandarwarka went 2 for 5 for CCS (21-14 overall, 15-10 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges).

Ryan Lentz’s second homer of the game, a two-run shot in the sixth, snapped a 5-all tie and helped 20th-ranked Washington (34-14) to an 11-6, non-conference win over visiting Portland (9-36).

Lentz also hit a grand slam in the fourth. He has 15 homers, one short of Mike Blowers’ UW season record set in 1986. Jason Vaughn homered twice for the Pilots.
