Counterfeit $20 Bills Surface In Local Area

From Staff Reports

Another rash of counterfeit $20 bills has turned up in the Spokane area, U.S. Secret Service agents said.

The fake bills do not have a security thread on the left side of the bill face. The thread normally would have the words “USA Twenty” running continuously through the thread. They also don’t have the red and blue fibers used in legitimate currency, agents said.

The bills are believed to be produced on ink jet or laser printers. The ink is water soluble and will smear when wet, agents said.

The serial numbers of counterfeit bills identified so far include: B20540600C, B29909892B, B30528708C, L07731952F, L08351588F, L21339323F, L26393197E, L28759896B, L57699905C, L89559317C, L92893420H.
