PBS gained the early lead Saturday in the 25th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, taking 11 trophies, including one for outstanding children’s series for “Reading Rainbow.”

Awards in 44 categories, primarily in the creative arts, were presented in dual ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles. The televised ceremony including most of the major honors, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, will take place Friday at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

Other PBS programs picking up trophies were “Wishbone,” “Sesame Street,” “Yan Can Cook” and “Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?”

The syndicated “Disney Presents Bill Nye the Science Guy” took home the most trophies of any program with four, including outstanding writing in a children’s series.

“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak won for outstanding game-show host. “The Pet Department” on cable network FX was chosen as outstanding service show.
