Kids Love Nick

Nickelodeon will end the television season as the top-rated network for children on Saturday mornings, another benchmark for cable as it chips away at an audience once dominated by free broadcast television. It’s the first time a cable network has won on Saturday mornings, traditionally the time television pays the most attention to a youthful audience. The cable network, which is programmed exclusively for children with shows such as “The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss,” except when it shows reruns of old sitcoms in the evenings, has a Nielsen Media Research rating of 4.1 on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. among children aged 2-11. That translates into 1.6 million children, Nickelodeon said. The ratings victory was surprising because on Saturday Nick shows reruns of popular cartoons like “Rugrats” and “Angry Beavers” that air first during other parts of the week.
