George ‘Dick’ Bolles Spokane
No service will be held for George Richard “Dick” Bolles, 68, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bolles, who was born in Libby, Mont., died Friday.
He worked as an electronic technician for the city of Spokane and was a 42-year resident.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Aurla; three sons, Kenneth Bolles of Spokane, Donald Bolles of Denver and Richard Bolles of Toledo, Ore.; a daughter, Aurla McNeill of Kennewick; two brothers, Gerald Bolles of Spokane and Bob Bolles of Libby; a sister, Helen Madeen of Hamilton, Mont.,; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
George ‘Dan’ Pebles Anacortes, Wash.
Funeral for George Daniel “Dan” Pebles, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pebles, who was born and raised in Spokane, died Tuesday.
He entered the Army in 1939 and served in the 161st Infantry during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
In 1946 he married Gertrude Braa in Spokane, and he worked a few years in Spokane.
Mr. Pebles later re-entered the Army and served in the Korean War in the 2nd Division and three tours in Vietnam. He retired after 33 years of service as a colonel.
After retirement, he sold real estate for several years, and he and his wife moved to Anacortes in 1982.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sharon Graham of Lynnwood, Wash.; a brother, Glen Pebles of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Leah Carter Spangle
Graveside service for Leah Carter, 90, will be today at the Spangle Cemetery in Spangle, Wash. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Carter, who was born in Endicott, Wash., died Wednesday.
She was a farmer in the Fairfield area for many years and retired in Spangle.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Carter of Spangle; two sisters, Mary Okreza of Spangle and Phoebe DePew of Greenacres; and two brothers, Walter and Dan Lautenschlager, both of St. John, Wash.

Carol ‘Jean’ Olson Spokane
Memorial service for Carol “Jean” Olson, 53, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Dishman Baptist Church. Hennessey-Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Olson, who was a 49-year resident of Spokane, died May 11.
She was born in Tonasket, Wash., and worked as a cook for Gonzaga Preparatory School until her retirement in 1990.
Mrs. Olson was a member of Dishman Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jamie Lewis of Spokane and Richard Olson of Lakeland, Wash.; two daughters, Tammy Petrone and Lori Rohr, both of Spokane; a brother, Earl Sayler of Spokane; a sister, Donna Hilsabeck of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Emanuel “Mannie” Scherr Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Emanuel “Mannie” Scherr, 78, will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Scherr, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday.
He grew up in Brooklyn and received a MBA degree from New York University and then served with the Army for five years in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II.
Mr. Scherr moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1978 and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Camera Club and the Kootenai Environmental Alliance.
Survivors include his wife, Joy; two daughters, Frances Blaine and Susan Shaffer; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Verna Stafford Greenacres
Funeral Mass for Verna D. Stafford, 72, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Trentwood. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stafford, who was a 52-year resident of the Spokane area, died Wednesday.
She was born in Lind, Wash., and worked as a homemaker.
Mrs. Stafford was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Fred; two daughters, Janice Katzenberger of Otis Orchards and Tina Clumpner of Dellingham, Alaska; two sisters, Esther Erickson and Darlene Ditton, both of Spokane and four grandchildren.

Gerald ‘Jerry’ Butts Spokane
Memorial service for Gerald Frank “Jerry” Butts, 65, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mr. Butts, who was a 12-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.
He was born in Jamestown, N.D., and graduated in 1950 from John R. Rogers High School where he was active in band.
Mr. Butts served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a staff sergeant stationed in Germany.
He worked for 24 years as a business manager for Western Union in California and for the past seven years had been the manager of Northland Federal Credit Union.
Mr. Butts loved to fish until he took up gardening.
Survivors include his mother, Ida Butts of Spokane; two sisters, Velma Dinehart and Phyllis Gilliland, both of Spokane; and a brother, Wallace Butts of Seattle.
