Stevens County Levies Undecided
Four school levies were passing Tuesday night in Stevens and Ferry counties, but a large number of absentee ballots cast a shadow over the Stevens County results.
In Ferry County, everyone in the Republic School District voted by mail and election officials expect only a few more ballots to be returned before the election is certified.
Still, the district’s tentative levy victory was too thin to inspire confidence.
The levy had 60.2 percent support, 773-510, and levies must have at least 60 percent to pass. The same proposal failed by just 12 votes in February.
In Stevens County, the Loon Lake School District levy had 67.5 percent support at the polls, 135-65, but at least 106 absentee ballots were still to be counted.
The Northport levy had 64.1 percent support, 161-90, but at least 117 ballots were uncounted.
A levy in the Summit Valley School District, near Addy, had 65.8 percent support, 52-27, but at least 32 absentee ballots were uncounted.
Stevens County election officials plan to count absentee ballots on Tuesday.
