Should you smile at teenage mothers holding their babies or make a point not to, in case some other girl is watching and might conclude that the way to earn respect and admiration is to become a parent?
Colville’s Jeannie Maki defines Stevens County feminism: “I own my own 4-wheel drive Ford pickup that hubby bought with timber dollars from the guy up the road. He accessorized it with an aluminum tool box, side rails, two trailer hitches one for a boat, one for a horse trailer and a gun rack. I have my own rifle, pistol, fish pole, horse and a blue heeler that bites.”

But they are the only ones we know of who have had one of the cows die during the event.

This year’s event Cow Plop VIII is called “Holy Cow!” It’s on June 6. Call 327-9369 for details.
Easy Targets Department: A Swell Paper colleague saw a woman reading something about getting healthy through “juicing.”
And she resisted the urge to suggest that Step No. 1 might be putting out her cigarette.
Remember, you are not a herd animal: It’s OK to like movies that aren’t big hits at the box office.
The Spokane area’s funniest nurses include: Sharon Bezecny, Jan Holloway, Tina Piaskowski and Bob Cramer.
Readers phoned in more than a dozen other names. But those callers didn’t leave their phone numbers. And our magical name-speller software has been down all week.
