Katherine Klein Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Katherine S. Klein, 77, will be today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Vigil service is planned for Friday at 6 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial Mass will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Klein, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday from cancer. She graduated from high school in Patchogue, N.Y. She worked with the USO during World War II and then lived in New York and Massachusetts. She moved to Ohio in 1952.

Mrs. Klein retired and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1987 and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

She served as a board member and volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, taught adult literacy classes and was a volunteer at the Museum of North Idaho.

Her husband of 45 years, Frederick, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Paul Klein of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Kathie Klein of Atlanta; and three grandchildren.

Fred Buell Sr. Spokane

Funeral for Fred A. Buell Sr., 86, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park, Sunset Chapel. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Buell, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He worked for Phillips Petroleum Refinery for 27 years.

Survivors include two sons, Jack and Bud Buell, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Willa Piersall Hayden, Idaho

Service for Willa C. Piersall, 71, will be today at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Chapel Gathering Center. Burial will be at Greenleaf (Idaho).

Mrs. Piersall, who was born in Greenleaf, died Monday.

She attended Greenleaf Academy and Cascade College in southern Idaho and then served as a minister with her husband, Wayne, in The Friends Church for 42 years in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Mrs. Piersall was instrumental in building the first Hayden Friends Church, which now is the Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.

She served at the Hayden church from 1961 to 1970 and then served at the Meridian Friends Church in Meridian, Idaho, from 1989 to 1994 before returning to the Hayden area.

Mrs. Piersall also was a church organist for many congregations.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years; a son, Donald Piersall of Oregon; three daughters, Sharrie Peterson and Janice Carney, both of Hayden and Dreana Purington of Oregon; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Leslie McGee Spokane

Memorial service for Leslie McGee, 76, was Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, Rose Chapel. Private burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. McGee, a 50-year resident of Spokane, died May 14.

He served in the Army Air Corps and then worked as a bookkeeper for various trucking companies. He also worked for the Senior Times. Survivors include his mother, Stella McGee of Spokane; and a brother, Roger McGee of Bellevue, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Virginia Becklund Spokane

Memorial service for Virginia L. Becklund, 67, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at University Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Becklund, who was born in Idaho, died Monday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Don; three sons, Glen and Rex Becklund, both of Spokane and Jeff Becklund of Las Vegas; two daughters, Penny Mills and Lynette Torres, both of Spokane; a sister, Betty Wollin of Spokane; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frances ‘Babe’ Garrelts Pullman

Visitation for Frances L. “Babe” Garrelts, 81, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrelts, who was born in Pullman, died Monday.

Her family lived in the Union Flat area before moving to a farm in Rose Creek.

In 1947, she married Roy Garrelts near Mukilteo, Wash.

She and her husband worked on the family farm until 1954, when they moved to Springdale, Wash., where they farmed wheat and raised cattle. They retired in 1974 and moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Garrelts was a member of the Ewartsville Grange.

Her husband died in 1996 and she moved back to Pullman.

Survivors include two sisters, Lois Gardner and Bette Harris, and a brother, Joe Cane, all of Clarkston, Wash.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Edward Linthicum Cheney

Rosary for Edward L. Linthicum, 65, will be at 7 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace with military honors.

Born in Moore County, N.C., Mr. Linthicum died Tuesday.

He graduated from Franklinton (N.C.) High School and served in the Air Force as an aircraft maintenance supervisor. He retired in 1973.

In 1974, he married Janet Ford in Reno, Nev.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 45 and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Billy Joe Linthicum of Raeford, N.C.; and five sisters, Dorothy Garfield of Franklinton, Thelma Williams of Chapel Hill, N.C., Dixie Freeman of Houston, Johnsie Foster of Raeford, N.C., and Jean Jones of Raleigh, N.C.
