Post Falls High School Senior Attains Eagle Scout

Daniel Stephens, a member of Boy Scout Troop 206 in Post Falls and a senior at Post Falls High School, recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Stephens led his troop in building food storage boxes at the Post Falls Food Bank and will receive his award at an Eagle Court of Honor later this month.

Stephens, who has been a member of the Boy Scouts of America since the second grade, plans to attend the University of Idaho College of Letters and Science in the fall.

St. Pius Knights of Columbus Council No. 11623 has received the State Family Action Award for sponsoring parish family activities, such as the Western barbecue, dances, games and dinners.

The group also received the State Youth Activities Award for supporting the newly formed Columbian Squires Circle (a youth group) and forming the second Columbian Squires Circle in the state.

Patrick “Patch” Allinger, the 13-year-old Notary for the Columbian Squire Circle from St. Pius, received a state trophy for winning the Idaho Knights Basketball Free Throw State Championship.

Anna Shaffer, a registration clerk who has worked at Kootenai Medical Center for more than five years, has been selected as the KMC May Employee of the Month.

Shaffer was credited with a cheerful, helpful disposition, dependability, professional manner and courtesy to patients.

Four local seniors were recently awarded $500 Idaho Drug Free Youth Scholarships based on a written essay regarding their involvement in IDFY. Winners were:

Sheila Karst, Wallace High School; Alicia Leeds, Kellogg High School; Spencer Ware, St. Maries High School; and Jocelyn Peacock-Riekena, of Bonners Ferry High School.

Willits student Thomas M. Alpers, son of Fredrick Alpers and Marian Ackerman of Coeur d’Alene, has received a bachelor of science degree from Jacksonville University in Florida.

Alpers graduated magna cum laude with a degree in chemistry and was a member of the JU Chemical Society.

Idaho Governor Phil Batt recently presented the Take Pride in Idaho Awards, which are presented to organizations and individuals for promoting and preserving Idaho’s tourism and recreational resources.

The Idaho Gateway Northwest Visitor Center in Post Falls, received the Outstanding Visitor Information Center Award. The center is staffed by volunteer husband/wife teams, sponsors various special events for travelers and participates in training sessions to provide information to visitors.

KTVB Channel 7, six of Idaho’s seven regional travel committees and the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association received the Idaho Media Award for the creation of “Exploring Idaho,” a half-hour series featuring Idahoans that is broadcast to a 8 million homes nationwide on the Outdoors Channel.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game won a special Idaho Media Award for “Idaho Wildlife Magazine, a 50-year-old publication that explores hunting and fishing and promotes the values of Idaho’s resources.
