8.5 Million See ‘Seinfeld’ Repeat
Been there, done that what else is on?
NBC’s Wednesday-night repeat of last week’s uber-hyped “Seinfeld” finale didn’t pull in quite as many viewers as the original. Like about 67 million fewer.
The repeat finished fourth in its 8 p.m. time period, drawing 8,545,000 viewers. The much-awaited May 14 finale, preceded by unprecedented media coverage and network promotion, drew 76.3 million viewers.
The “Seinfeld” rerun was outgunned by the season finales of Fox’ “Beverly Hills, 90210” (13,768,000 viewers) and ABC’s “Spin City” (9,426,000 viewers), as well as a CBS special on Sonny Bono hosted by Cher (13,614,000 viewers).
The “Seinfeld” rerun ratings were obviously depressed by the fact that most everyone had just seen the show last week. Also, NBC didn’t have much time, especially compared to the five-month buildup to the big farewell, for promotion.
