Skyview To Get New Principal
The East Valley School Board decided this week to hire a new principal for Skyview Elementary School.
Former Skyview principal Harold Weakland was put on administrative leave earlier this year, after teachers voiced concerns about his leadership.
After interviewing teachers at Skyview this spring, EV superintendent Chuck Stocker said he felt it would be difficult for Weakland to rebuild the staff’s confidence.
Weakland has accepted a one-year position as dean of students at East Valley High School.
The position will help administrators there handle a growing student load.
The district expects more than 1,600 students to enroll at the high school this fall. To relieve crowding around the cafeteria, the high school will move up from two to three lunch sessions.
“That will give them five people supervising students, rather than four,” Stocker said.
Weakland’s job will also involve handling truancy problems, including paperwork and court hearings for the Becca Bill.
Weakland will retire from the district at the end of the 1998-‘99 school year, Stocker said.
Stocker said he expects a new principal to be in place at Skyview by mid-July.
