Kim Exner had 22 kills and a .600 hitting percentage on Saturday as visiting Eastern Washington defeated Northern Arizona 15-8, 15-2, 15-3 at Flagstaff for its 10th win in 11 volleyball matches.
Lacey Coover added 14 digs and 10 kills for the Eagles (18-3 overall, 9-2 Big Sky Conference), who hit .545 in the second game.
Xylena Sanders had 14 kills and a .435 hitting percentage for the Lumberjacks (15-7, 8-4), who finished hitting just .129.
Charlene Conley had 13 kills and an .813 hitting percentage as seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara (22-2, 11-1) defeated Idaho 15-2, 15-6, 15-5 in a Big West Conference match at Santa Barbara, Calif.
Freshman outside hitter Heather Kniss had seven kills and seven digs for the Vandals (12-13, 5-7).
Petia Yanchulova had 14 kills and hit .538 as San Diego (18-4, 8-1 West Coast Conference) defeated visiting Gonzaga 15-2, 15-7, 15-5.
Heather Osberg of the Bulldogs (6-18, 3-6) had seven kills and five digs.
Abby Jo Hornstein had five of her 11 kills in the second game as Whitworth (3-10, 2-14 Northwest Conference) defeated visiting Lewis & Clark 5-15, 15-8, 15-13, 15-9 to end its season by snapping a 15-match losing streak. The Pioneers (8-16, 4-12) scored the final eight points to win the first game.
Pierce defeated Community Colleges of Spokane 15-10, 15-13 in the title match of the Mt. Hood Tournament at Gresham, Ore.
Angel Fairbanks had 13 kills and Shannon Nelson 19 digs for CCS in the final. Fairbanks, with 47 kills at the tourney, was selected to the all-tournament team.
Women’s soccer
Sophomore forward Andrea Lee scored at 87 minutes as Idaho completed its season with a 1-0, non-conference win over visiting Eastern Washington (3-13).
Lee’s fifth goal of the season, after an assist by Megan Cummings of Ferris High, went past EWU goalkeeper Amy Schmitt. Idaho (4-13-1) had lost 12 consecutive matches, stretching back to Sept. 11.
Rachel Alenduff scored on a penalty kick in the second overtime as Willamette (15-0-4, 13-0-2 NWC) defeated visiting Whitworth 1-0 at Salem, Ore.
Goalkeeper Stacey Roberts of the Pirates (6-11-1, 5-9-1) had a shutout for more than 110 minutes. Whitworth completes its regular season today against Linfield.
Jenny Merkel and Becky Rogers teamed up on the first two goals and visiting Columbia Basin defeated CCS 3-0 at Spokane Falls CC.
The Hawks are 13-0-1 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges and have outscored rivals 70-10. Teresa Hatch had five of the 10 shots on goal for CCS, which dropped to 5-7.
Men’s soccer
John Klaus scored twice in the second half as visiting Whitworth (8-9, 6-9 NWC) defeated Willamette 3-1 at Salem, Ore.
Mark Lupton also scored for Whitworth to support his brother, goalkeeper Doug Lupton. Like the Whitworth women, the Pirates end their regular season today against Linfield. The Bearcats are 11-8, 8-7.
Tony Pass scored twice and Randall Pratt set up two goals as CCS (14-1-1 NWAACC) defeated visiting Columbia Basin 5-0 at SFCC.
Chad Beadel registered the shutout in goal. The Sasquatch, with their seventh shutout, have outscored teams 84-15. The Hawks are 8-6-3.
Junior hockey
Ryan Dexter’s overtime goal lifted Golden of British Columbia to a 3-2 victory over the Spokane Braves in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action at Eagles Ice-A-Rena. Keith Tobiason and Jesse Wright netted goals for Spokane (4-9-2).
