Spokane Artists’ Work Displayed At Chase
Public art proposal drawings, models and a variety of related objects by two of Spokane’s leading artists - Ken Spiering and Harold Balazs - are on display at the Chase Gallery in City Hall through Dec. 31.
The exhibit explores a wide range of ideas from 25-plus years of proposal work, said Karen Mobley, Spokane’s arts director.
It’s an “intense array of odds and ends, sketches, formal proposals and newspaper clippings,” Mobley said.
Included are preparatory materials for such sites as “Childhood Express,” better known as the Red Wagon in Riverfront Park; art for the STA Plaza; and proposals for pieces throughout the country, such as “Mermaid with a Parka.”
A reception for Spiering and Balazs will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the gallery.
The men will also be guest speakers for the Paradigm Shift artist meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19, in the Chase Gallery, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
In Coeur d’Alene
The work of Idaho artists is featured through Nov. 28 at The Art Spirit Gallery of Fine Art in Coeur d’Alene.
Included is the traveling exhibit of the Idaho Watercolor Society’s Annual Juried Member Exhibition, and art by members of the regional chapter, the North Above North Watercolor Society’s Juried Membership Exhibition.
A reception is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 908 Sherman. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
