Christian concerts

Club Christo at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, will host Cancer Fight ‘98, a benefit concert with more than a dozen Christian bands from noon to midnight today.

The lineup includes Forgiven, Out of Order, Warp Factor 9, Farfrom Burnin’, Champion Birdwatchers, Soul Purpose and Surcus. Cost: $10.

Concert benefits Melinda Clark, a sophomore at Ferris High School recovering from the removal of a brain tumor.

Christian musicians Dick and Mel Tunney will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard.

The duo has won eight Dove Awards in the last 12 years, including 1991 Instrumental Album of the Year and 1988 Musical of the Year.

They have also been nominated for a dozen other Doves.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets: $9 in advance general admission and $12 reserved seating; available at area Christian bookstores. (456-4870)

NW Baptist Convention

“Claim the Promise,” the 51st Northwest Baptist Convention, meets this week in Spokane. Events include a Women’s Missionary Union conference at 2 p.m. Monday at the DoubleTree Hotel, a pastor/layman conference at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the DoubleTree, and a missions fair in the Ag Trade Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Opera House with a service to commission 117 missionaries. It continues Wednesday with sessions from 8:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. All events are free. (921-6844)
