Pullman Hearing On Land Plan Tonight

From Staff

More bike trails, more open space, more attention to downtown.

That’s what Pullman residents can expect if the city’s draft comprehensive plan is adopted later this year. A public hearing on the plan is scheduled for 7:30 tonight at City Hall.

According to the plan, Pullman will grow to 33,650 residents by the year 2020, with WSU enrollment at 23,500 students.

Land use will remain relatively unchanged under the proposed plan, which calls for maintaining downtown as the city’s core and allowing clusters of commercial development in outlying areas.

The plan, drafted by the city planning commission, also encourages more careful planning around flood zones and keeps future industrial development to the north side, near existing industrial parks. High-density student housing should be focused near Merman and Terre View drives, according to the plan.

The plan also calls for more parks and open space, development of a storm-water drainage plan and better utilization of upper stories of downtown buildings.

Copies of the draft plan are available from city planning and administrative offices, Neill Public Library and WSU’s Holland Library.
