Woody Garvin, senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, Spokane.
Background: Garvin, 51, was ordained in 1978 after attending San Francisco Theological Seminary, where he also received a doctor of ministry degree in 1984. He and his wife, Stephne, have been married 30 years, and they have two sons, Stephen, 28, and Matthew, 22.
Garvin spent most of his earlier ministry years in California, where he worked extensively on issues involving the homeless and with Habitat for Humanity. Since his arrival in Spokane in March 1997, he has launched the Spokane City Forum, featuring guests speaking on community issues, and his church is helping renovate a low-income hotel downtown.
