Group history: Been together for three years. A co-ed group of 10 members, the club meets monthly to discuss exclusively environmental literature and nature writing.

Currently reading: “The Arrogance of Humanism” by David Ehrenfeld (Oxford Press, ISBN 0-19-502890-2).

Club reviewer: Paul Lindholdt.

The review: David Ehrenfeld, a Rutgers University biology professor, sees humanism as more than just the belief that humankind is the pinnacle of planetary evolution. It is also the belief that we are capable, through technology and ingenuity, of second-guessing every phenomenon or trend and solving every problem, especially those we have caused through our god-like arrogance as a species.
