Obituaries

Rodney Senechal Spokane

Visitation for Rodney D. Senechal, 79, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Senechal, who was born in Sanish, N.D., died Sunday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a fighter pilot and squadron commander, and was a member of the O.S.S.

He married Joyce Wise in 1947.

Mr. Senechal worked as a journeyman carpenter and a pipefitter before working as a hydraulic specialist at Kaiser Aluminum for 20 years. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church and El Katif Shrine, and was a 32nd degree mason of the East Gate Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jeannine Senechal of Seattle and Mae Greenwood of Arlington, Wash.; a brother, William Catlin of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Theda Bowden and June Cimino, both of California; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Wilma Oliver Spokane

Visitation for Wilma Jean Oliver, 73, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Oliver, who was born in Dover, Idaho, died Monday.

She graduated from Sandpoint High School and from business college in Spokane, and worked as a civil service secretary in Guam for one year.

She married Frank Chamberlain Oliver in 1950, and they toured the United States and Europe before returning to Spokane in 1965.

Her husband died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, William Oliver of Nome, Alaska; two daughters, Kathleen Powell and Melinda Oliver Mellor, both of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Lorna Deibert of LaClede, Idaho, Betty Ballou of Chehalis, Wash., and her twin, Velma Oliver of Anchorage; and two grandchildren.

Rachel Thoresen Sun Valley, Idaho

Memorial service for Rachel M. Thoresen, 25, was Tuesday at Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.

Miss Thoresen, who was born in Spokane, died Sept. 24 after suffering injuries in an automobile accident in Idaho.

She moved to Seattle from Spokane during her freshmen year of high school, and graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle and the University of Washington.

She was working in Sun Valley, Idaho, at the time of her death.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Patty and Mike Roleru of Redmond, Wash.; her father and stepmother, John and Cheryl Thoresen of Edmonds, Wash.; three brothers, Matthew Thoresen of New York, and Sam and Raju Roleru, both of Redmond; and her grandmother, Cecilia Whitemore of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Orkila, Orcas Island, WA 98280, or to the World Association for Children and Parents in Seattle.

Claudia Hansen Tekoa, Wash.

Memorial service for Claudia M. Hansen, 83, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Tekoa. Inurnment will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hansen, who was born in Puyallup, Wash., died Sunday.

She married Warren Weatherly in 1932 in Asotin, Wash., and they moved to Clarkston, Wash. In 1944 they moved to Tekoa, where she worked at F.W. Woodruff and Sons Seed Co. Mr. Weatherly died in 1963.

From 1964 to 1968, she worked at Tekoa Bakery Co. and from 1956 to the mid-1970s she was a cook for the Tekoa School District.

In 1966 she married Ralph Gerber and worked at the Fairfield Good Samaritan Center. She later worked at the Tekoa Care Center as a cook until 1982. Mr. Gerber died in 1981.

In 1984 she married Herman Hansen. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of the Lutheran Church and the United Church of Christ in Tekoa for the past several years.

Survivors include two sons, James Weatherly of Seeley Lake, Mont., and Richard Weatherly of Medical Lake; a daughter, Donna Squibb of Tekoa; two stepsons, Delbert Hansen of Kenmore, Wash., and Leland Hansen of Canoga Park, Calif.; a brother, Reagan Candler of Clarkston; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tekoa Care Center or the Tekoa Ambulance Fund.

Gladys Britton Spokane

Funeral Mass for Gladys L. Britton, 89, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Britton, who died Monday, was born in Curlew, Wash.

She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Aloysius Parish and the League of Women Voters.

Mrs. Britton had been a resident of Spokane for 71 years.

Her husband, Frank Britton, died in 1983.

Mrs. Britton is survived by a sister, Agnes Brown of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas Means Post Falls

Memorial service for Thomas P. Means, 55, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Mr. Means, who was born in Las Vegas, died Wednesday.

He was an Oglala Sioux Indian and lived in Spokane for several years, graduating from Riverside High School.

Mr. Means was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Spokane and the Rathdrum (Idaho) Lions.

Survivors include his wife, Regina; a son, Frank Means of Spokane; a stepson, Terry Lynch of Otis Orchards; three daughters, Kelley Wiesmen of Kent, Wash., Kim Fullerwilder of Seattle and Tina Means of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Shelley Sorenson of Fairfield, and Tina Stuthmiller and Jackie Lodahl, both of Spokane; two sisters, Marlene Vanholt of Plummer, Idaho, and Ardelle Fountain of New York; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mildred ‘Mickey’ Rawson Spokane

Memorial service for Mildred A. “Mickey” Rawson, 78, will be at 4 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rawson, who was born in Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday.

She worked as a retail clerk and was a 25-year Spokane resident.

Survivors include a daughter, Debrah Jones of Spokane; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Lauritzen Spokane

Memorial service for Mary Ann Lauritzen, 75, is planned for noon Saturday at the Riverside Mausoleum at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lauritzen, who was born in Natal, British Columbia, died Sept. 23.

She married Archie Lauritzen in 1946 in Spokane.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Lodge 2.

Her husband died in 1982.

Survivors include two sons, James and Michael Lauritzen, both of Spokane; a daughter, Marilyn Dent of Crestview, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Marguerite Stapleton Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Marguerite R. Stapleton, 76, at her request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stapleton, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Rogers High School and then moved to Inchelium, Wash., and was a farmer.

Mrs. Stapleton later moved to Dalkena, Wash., and was a farmer before moving to Rathdrum, Idaho where she lived for 20 years.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1975 and worked as a clerk at Clare Pendar. She was also a 4-H leader and served as a secretary for the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees in Spokane and volunteered at the Coeur d’Alene Senior Center for many years.

Her husband, Dean, died April 18.

Survivors include a son, Dan Stapleton of St. Maries; a daughter, Judith Donner of Spirit Lake, Idaho; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rae ‘Darlene’ Scott Las Vegas

Memorial service will be held at a later date for Rae “Darlene” Scott. Desert Memorial Funeral Home in Las Vegas is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Scott, who was born in Kansas City, Mo., died Sept. 23. She was 66.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Whitman College, and had worked at Kaiser Aluminum-Mead for 13 years.

She was a resident of Spokane for 40 years and moved to Las Vegas five years ago.

Survivors include her companion, Phillip Cook; a daughter, JoAnn Rountree of Tacoma; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Doris Crow Spokane

Visitation for Doris A. Crow, 93, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Crow, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was a charter member of the Eagles Lodge 2, a member of the Rebekah Lodge 302, the Order of the Eastern Star Spokane Chapter 163, Daughters of the Nile, and an original member of the Mom and Dad’s Dance Band.

Her husband of 51 years, Charles, died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Charles Crow of Spokane; a daughter, Laura Curtiss of Greenacres; a sister, Betty Mycock of Chattaroy; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Ralph Howe Medical Lake

No service will be held for Ralph Howe, 68, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Howe, who was born in Adair County, Mo., died Tuesday.

In 1950 he married Lena Kerns and they moved from Spanway, Wash., to Spokane.

Mr. Howe retired from the Army in 1973 after 26 years of service. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.

From 1979 to 1983 he worked for Washington Trust Bank as a vault teller.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 45.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, David and Henry Howe, both of Spokane, Edward Piere of New Baden, Ill., and Ralph Howe of Tacoma; a sister, Edna Kelsey of Greentop, Mo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lula Stone Spokane

Funeral for Lula M. Stone, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Mission for All Nations. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stone, who was born in Wilmar, Ark., died Sept. 26.

She was a member of the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, a board member of the League of Women for Community Action and a member of the Southeast Daycare Center.

Mrs. Stone was also a volunteer for Hospice of Spokane, COPS East and the East Central Community Parenting Group. She was named the Eastside Neighborhood Center Mother of the Year in 1989.

She also published a book, “My Life Story.”

Survivors include seven sons, Roy and Kenny Harris, David Anderson, Don, Joey and Lonnie Stone, all of Spokane, and Alonzo Anderson of Bellevue, Wash.; three daughters, Kathy Gardner and Linda White, both of Spokane, and Neda Singleton of Atlanta; three brothers, Frank and Tom Fletcher, both of Spokane, and Garland Fletcher of Wilmar; four sisters, Emma Fletcher of Las Vegas, Corrine and Lucy Spencer, both of Dumas, Ark., and Gertrude Taylor of Wilmar; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
