Saving The Land

Actor and environmental activist Robert Redford has protected 860 acres near his Sundance ski resort against development. Concerned that rapid and unmanaged growth is enveloping the state of Utah, the popular film actor and director dedicated the scenic land as a nature and wildlife preserve that can never be developed. The Alpine Loop, one of Utah’s most popular byways when the leaves turn in autumn, winds through the aspen- and pine-covered forest at the base of Mount Timpanogos. “That’s the beauty of this land it speaks for itself,” Redford said. “How could it not be spiritual? There’s a lot of spiritual talk around here in the community. Where’s the evidence? Somehow I find it hard to get spiritual in a mall.”
