BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonner Lake
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is transforming Bonner Lake, one of 11 Boundary County lowland lakes, into a quality trout fishery.
The lake was treated with rotenone, a natural chemical from the roots of plants, Oct. 7. Rotenone is harmless to humans but kills gill-breathing animals by preventing the uptake of oxygen.
Bonner Lake will be left fish-less this winter while the fish killed by the treatment decompose and fertilize the lake for stocking next spring. Biologists believe the treatment will result in a popular fishery.
