‘Jazz And Java’ Night Set For Friday

The Spokane Spiritual Center will hold a night of “Jazz and Java” at 8 p.m. Friday.

Desafinado, a group that plays Brazilian jazz, will feature vocals, percussion, brass, flutes, saxophones and nylon-string guitar. Miguel Cortez, a national dance champion, will give demonstrations of Latin dance. Dance lessons will be available starting at 7 p.m., at a cost of $2 per person.

The concert will take place at the Spokane Spiritual Center’s auditorium, 1445 N. Argonne.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. They may be purchased at Miracles Bookstore or by calling 891-0745.

The family event will feature a tropical garden setting, with espresso, lattes and tropical juice available.

SCOPE meets Thursday

West Valley SCOPE will hold its monthly community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Millwood Town Hall, 9103 E. Frederick. The public is welcome.

Book swap today

Friends of the Deer Park Library is sponsoring a book swap at the Spokane Valley Mall’s Center Court today.

The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hardcover books cost 50 cents and paperbacks cost 25 cents. Books can also be donated. A quilt made by the librarians will be raffled off Saturday.

The fund-raiser is to benefit the opening of the new Deer Park library next month.
