Kallas supported

John Kallas has all the essential qualities of what it takes to represent constituents of the Fourth District.

As a police officer, his 20-year, no-loss conviction record speaks for itself.

He is culturally diverse and has worked extensively with the rich and poor, white and minorities.

He has been heralded as a legend, both by criminals and police for his proactive approach to stopping prostitution on the notorious Sea-Tac strip.

His expertise in working with gangs will benefit all of us.

He is running for this office to make our streets safe, to give opportunity to our labor force, and, most important, to protect public school funds from the religious right and dangerous religious cults.

These private groups are attempting to weaken the public education system by seeking public education money through a voucher system which will support these groups.

Yes, he has some faults.

He gave money to poor kids he worked with and took them to state and national basketball tourneys with his own money.

He almost worked himself to death.

He is tough, aggressive, and still believes in discipline in schools, in respecting our seniors, and that you can learn something every day.

He believes there is good in everyone. He is poor, but rich in common-sense principles that will carry the Fourth District into the millennium.

Schindler opposed

Voters, don’t cut the throat of public school education.

Lynn Schlinder is a religious fundamentalist who opposes public school education. She home-schools and private-school educates her children.

The Washington State Legislature was created in 1889 for the sole purpose of funding public school education.

How ironic that so many religious fundamentalists are being elected to the Legislature when they are determined to weaken public school education. Taxpayer-funded vouchers for private schools will hurt public schools.

When the Valley was agricultural, we voted Democrat.

Now that we’ve become the suburbs, it has become the in thing to vote Republican.

But before you Fourth District voters automatically mark the “R” ballot you better stop and think, because a vote for “R” Lynn Schindler is a vote against public schools. Sally Jackson Spokane
