Obituaries

Ben Stafford Inchelium, Wash.

Funeral for Ben R. Stafford, 62, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Inchelium Community Center. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stafford, who was born in Broken Bow, Okla., died Tuesday.

He moved to Las Vegas in 1942 and later to Lakeview, Ore. In 1968 he married Patricia Seymour in Reno, Nev., and they moved to Inchelium in 1974.

Mr. Stafford worked as a truck driver in the logging industry in Inchelium for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diane Anderson of Susanville, Calif., and Doris Icenhower and Tammy Sweeny, both of Lakeview; three sons, Mark Stafford of Gifford, Wash., Daryl Stafford of Bend, Ore., and Richard Stafford of Lakeview; two stepdaughters, Sherly Pakootas of Inchelium and Sandra Louie of Oliver, British Columbia; a brother, Jack Stafford of Henderson, Nev.; two sisters, Maurice Lepley of Lakeview and Lorene Herman of Redding, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Guerdon Walker Nine Mile Falls

Memorial service for Guerdon G. Walker, 74, will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walker, who was born in Corbet, N.Y., died Oct. 11.

He moved to California in 1940 and served in the Navy from 1942 until 1945.

Mr. Walker then joined the CIT Corp. in 1960 and moved to Spokane to become a division head in 1979. He was was the owner and operator of All Satellite TV from 1982 until his retirement in 1997.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Maureen; three daughters, Michelle Knittel of Spokane, Joyce Persyn of Veneta, Ore., and Jan Walker of Palm Springs, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Carole Lothman-Gallegos of Quincy, Wash.; a stepson, William Lothman of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Grace Machado of Corbet; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

George Baldwin Pinehurst, Idaho

Memorial service for George Raymond Baldwin, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baldwin, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.

He grew up in North Idaho and served with the Army during World War II. He later moved to Post Falls where he lived for 10 years.

Mr. Baldwin then moved to the Silver Valley and worked as a logger and miner for local companies. He also owned a logging truck company before retiring.

He was a member of the Rose Lake Masonic Lodge, the Shrine and the Osburn Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth; nine children, George and Pat Baldwin, both of Smelterville, Les Baldwin of Pinehurst, Becky Carpenter and Boyd Baldwin, both of Post Falls, Sherry Swartz of Oregon, Gary Baldwin of St. Maries, Ron Baldwin of Hayden, Idaho, and Joe Baldwin of Nevada; three sisters, Faith Lynn of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Grace Lynch of Liberty Lake and Joy Callap of Rathdrum, Idaho; three brothers, Charles Baldwin of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Jim Baldwin of Arizona and Sam Baldwin of Nevada; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Earl Flage Sr. Greenacres

Private inurnment for Earl G. Flage, Sr., 85, will be held in North Dakota at a later date. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Flage, who was born in Forsyth, Mont., died Oct. 9.

He graduated from Forsyth High School and served in the Army Air Corps in Burma-China and India during World War II and worked in the Civil Conservation Corps in the Western United States.

Mr. Flage then worked for the Postal Service with the railway mail, and in the 1960s he moved to Spokane from Billings, Mont. He worked in the central post office. He retired in 1977 after 31 years.

He was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

His first wife Esther died in 1986.

Survivors include his wife Edna; a son, Earl Flage, Jr., of Martinez, Calif.; and a brother, Bennett Flage of East Helena, Mont.

Samuel Windecker Spokane

Memorial service for Samuel Windecker, 92, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Windecker, who was born in Russell, Manitoba, died Thursday.

He came to Spokane from Denver in 1929 and married Pauline Pfeifer.

Mr. Windecker worked as a meat cutter for 60 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Meat Cutters Union and Hope Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Viola Mertens of Spokane, Diana Manthey of Newman Lake and Ella Dean of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Connie Windecker of Tacoma; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Charles Thurman Spokane

Memorial service for Charles M. Thurman, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pines Mausoleum. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Salem, Ill., Mr. Thurman died Thursday.

He joined the Navy in 1940 and served in World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1960.

Mr. Thurman then moved to Bayview, Idaho, and in 1966 he moved to Spokane, where he worked as a carpenter until his retirement.

His wife of 10 years, Joye, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Pam Stanciu of Spokane and Cheryl Mora of Williamstown, N.J.; two stepsons, Michael Mora of Hilo, Hawaii, and Randy Mora of Terre Haute, Ind.; one grandson and numerous stepgrandchildren.

Linda Myers Post Falls

Graveside service for Linda Kay Myers, 56, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Myers, who was born in Los Angeles, died Thursday.

She had lived in Spokane before moving to Post Falls 30 years ago. She worked as a secretary for Hi-Tech Heating in Coeur d’Alene for several years.

Mrs. Myers was a llama farmer and used a spinning wheel to spin wool. She also owned a worm farm.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; two sons, Jim Myers of Post Falls and Steve Myers, of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, April Bylsma of Great Falls, Mont., and Tamara Chamberlain of Post Falls; her mother, Margaret Culbertson of Spokane; two sisters, Margaret Myers of Seattle and Carol Beroth of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Margery (Sabiston) Sherry Spokane

Private graveside service for Margery Grace (Sabiston) Sherry, 77, will be held at Pines Cemetery. Memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Veradale United Church of Christ. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sherry, a lifetime Spokane resident, died last Tuesday.

She graduated from North Central High School and Whitman College.

In 1947 she married Charles Sherry.

Mrs. Sherry was a homemaker, and a deacon and member at Veradale United Church of Christ. She was also active in Church Women United, serving as an officer and as chair of many committees.

Survivors include five sons, Richard, Robert, William, Michael and Thomas Sherry; a sister, Jane Bunge; and numerous grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ.

Richard Storer Spokane

Graveside service for Richard Orville Storer, 67, will be at 10 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Storer, who was born in Colville, Wash., died Thursday.

He worked as an automobile and race car mechanic for many years.

Mr. Storer and been a Spokane County resident for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; three sons, David, Richard and Terry Storer, all of Spokane; three daughters, Cheri Clother, Diane Huyck and Sandra Storer, all of Tacoma; his mother, Edith Leffelbine, and a brother, Jerry Storer, both of Colville; a sister, Mary Staton of Medical Lake; and seven grandchildren.
