Roads Closed
The Bonners Ferry Ranger District has announced two road repair projects, which are scheduled to begin after the Labor Day weekend.
Solomon Lake Road No. 627 will be closed at approximately the one-mile marker from Tuesday through Sept. 11. People camping in the Solomon Lake area are advised to have all vehicles out of the area by Sunday evening. Hikers should be able to continue to use the road.
Trout Creek No. 634 will also be closed, starting Tuesday, and will be closed the rest of the month.
Bird club meeting
The next meeting of the Inland Northwest Bird Club will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the community building in Uniontown, Wash. Pet bird owners, hobbyists and professional bird enthusiasts are invited. For more info, telephone Karen Mallon at (509) 229-3765 or Valorie Stricklin (208) 877-1538.
Hunting for mobility impaired
The Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District is accepting proof of eligibility for this season’s Mobility Impaired Hunting program through Sept. 25.
A random drawing will be held at the district’s Silverton office on Sept. 28. Each hunter will be allowed three consecutive days to hunt within one of the mobility impaired locations. Those not chosen will be placed on a waiting list.
To compete in the drawing, each applicant must come in person to the district office in Silverton or Fernan to show their Idaho handicapped person’s motor vehicle hunting permit, a valid Idaho disabled hunting license and a big-game tag for permit validation. Idaho residents need to have the doctor’s certification section of the form (BA-116) completed by their physician. Out of state residents must have their signature and physician’s signature notarized on the application.
For more information, call the Silverton office at (208) 752-1221 or the Fernan office at (208) 769-3000.
Youth hunts
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has approved a Youth Waterfowl Hunt for Sept. 26, the weekend before the opening of the regular waterfowl season. A Youth Pheasant Hunt is set for both days of the first weekend in October.
A full limit of geese is allowed for the young hunter. In the past, the hunt was limited to ducks.
