Drawdown To Begin For Lake Pend Oreille
Albeni Falls Dam will begin drawing down the reservoir level of Lake Pend Oreille after the Labor Day weekend, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.
The lake elevation ranges from 2,062 to 2,062.5 feet above sea level throughout the summer season. The corps lowers the lake elevation each fall for flood control and to make water available for fall power generation.
The Corps will only draw the lake down to 2,055 feet as part of an experiment to provide more spawning grounds for kokanee salmon. This is the third year of the experiment.
The level will be lowered to about 2,060 feet by the end of September and to 2,055 feet by the end of October.
