Letters To The Editor

What about potholes?

The county did a great job of work on Sprague, between Park and Fancher.

It’s now almost as good as it was before it was paved.

I am sure the parts stores that sell shocks love it.

It seems that filling some of the rim-bending potholes in our streets would have been better use of the money.

I called to report two bad ones a month ago and they are still there - and I still dodge them.

Keep up the good work. Lyle H. Leslie Spokane

No parking for kids

This is in regards to the Central Valley school bond.

There is a profusion of signs stating “Vote Yes for Kids.”

I have read the information very carefully and this is money that will be used exclusively for Central Valley High School and University High School.

As for U-Hi, I read that there will be 500 parking spaces for students only set aside for their use. And then we get all the reports that our air is getting bad. I ask, why in the name of good sense do these “kids” need 500 parking spaces. The traffic is very dense on Highway 27 and 32nd Avenue as it is. Can you imagine what it will be with more cars and more buses? Don’t forget the staff’s cars.

Why not use this money on education, where it belongs.

I for one will vote “no.” Joan E. Krogh Spokane

Vote ‘yes’ for future

Central Valley schools have earned our support, even though we have no kids in school.

All three of my children have gone through the Central Valley school system.

I am very pleased with the basic skills they developed and the specialty classes taken that have helped prepare for their vocations. I was pleased then and am especially pleased now as they are grown adults.

As we observe through the news media, schools affect the quality of life in a community, just as a community affects the quality of its schools.

Although there are times I may take issue with some approaches or policies taken by our school district, when looking at the big picture, I continue to appreciate the Central Valley district’s leadership and educational efforts.

Effective schools result in positive community benefits and pride.

I urge the voters and especially those who have no children in school to vote “yes” not only to show support for the children and staff of CV, but more importantly to continue building a positive impact on our community that will go beyond the next 50 years. Clarence R. Scott Veradale

We’ve outgrown schools

Once again it’s time for our children to go back to school, and again like so many times over the past several years we are faced with what to do about our high schools here in the Central Valley School District.

Everyone has their own idea of what we should do, their own spin on why to vote “yes” or why to vote “no,” so I’d like to express my own idea and share my thoughts on this issue.

As a parent it’s my responsibility to supply my children with what they need to help them achieve the most they can.

If a bicycle wears out, we repair it or replace it. If their shoes wear out or they outgrow them, we get them new ones.

After 30 years, we have outgrown our schools. We have repaired the tires and have gotten new laces, but we need to realize as a district it’s time to get a new pair of schools.

As parents it’s time to step up and support the future of our children and the future of our districts children and vote yes on Sept. 15.

Thank you for letting me put my spin on the up coming bond issue.

Please vote to support C.V. schools. Dennis Johnson Spokane
