Sandpoint Cruises By St. Maries

Idaho preps

Sandpoint defeated St. Maries 15-5, 17-15, 15-6 in a meeting of defending league volleyball champions at St. Maries on Saturday.

Sandpoint (1-0) won the Inland Empire League last season and finished second place at the State A-1 tournament. St. Maries (3-1) won its 18th consecutive Intermountain League title and placed fourth at the State A-2 tourney.

Jamie Hammes had eight kills for St. Maries.

Kellogg defeated Timberlake 15-10, 15-6 in an IML game at Rathdrum.

Cassie Beyer had six assists and three kills for the Tigers (1-1, 0-1).

Lakeland placed seventh at the Freeman Invitational, defeating Medical Lake 15-11, 15-12 in its final match.

Becky Hardy had 21 kills and Anika Duvall 21 digs for the Hawks during the day.

Lakeside dropped non-league matches to Potlatch and host Wallace.

Christina McPeak served 10 for 10 and had 15 assists for Lakeside in a 16-14, 15-7 loss to Potlatch. Mary Kolar served 15 of 16 and had four blocks in the Knights’ 15-11, 13-15, 15-3 loss to Wallace.

Lakeside’s Michelle Kelly had 13 digs on the day.

Boys soccer

Jevon Watson’s goal with 5 minutes left gave Sandpoint (2-0) a 3-2 win at Coeur d’Alene (0-2) in the North Idaho League.

Kyle Chambers’ second goal, on a crossing pass from Jared Richards, pulled the Vikings into a 2-all tie at 80 minutes.

Also in the NIL, Jared Vreeland’s penalty kick at 11 minutes held up as visiting Moscow defeated Post Falls 1-0.

The score was set up when Moscow’s Matt Fritz was tackled in the goalie box.

Connor Quinn had two goals and one assist, and Lake City (1-1) jumped ahead 3-0 after 6 minutes on the way to a 7-0 win at Bonners Ferry (0-3).

Philimon Tudor added one goal and three assists for the Timberwolves.

Girls soccer

Sarah Meyer had two goals and one assist to guide Moscow (1-0-1) to a 6-0 win at Post Falls (0-2) in the NIL.

Katie Harkins and Anna Byers each had one goal and one assist.
