Steve Vensel Earns Eagle Scout Award
Steve Vensel, a member of Boy Scout Troop 405, has received the Eagle Scout Award. His Eagle project was to organize the outside building and parking lot painting of Valley Community Center.
Vensel, an honor-roll student at Evergreen Junior High School, is the son of Chuck and Helen Vensel, Spokane.
Jacqueline Bates graduated this spring from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, with a degree in biology.
Bates, a graduate of Gonzaga Prep, is the daughter of Daniel and Lucille Bates, Spokane.
Julie Miller, a 1998 graduate of West Valley High School, received a $2,500 scholarship from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation.
Miller, who plans to attend Washington State University to study veterinary medicine, was valedictorian of her graduating class.
Courtney Drennon, a spring honors graduate of Shadle Park High School, has received the $1,000 Linda Sheridan Athletic Scholarship.
Drennon, who plans to study sports medicine at Arizona State University, is the daughter of Maggi Drennon, Spokane.
Three Spokane-area students received scholarships and awards from Washington State University’s College of Agriculture and Home Economics.
Vanessa Burk received a $500 Margaret E. Nelson and Grace A. Kenbel Scholarship. A 1993 graduate of East Valley High School, Burk is the daughter of Don and Julie TeBeau, Spokane.
Rebecca Gahl, a 1997 graduate of East Valley High School, received a $1,500 Multicultural Student Scholarship.
Gahl, who plans to study wildlife biology, is the daughter of Eugene and Carol Gahl, Newman Lake.
Susan L. McLellan, WSU graduate student, received a $600 Edward E. Graff Scholarship and a $400 Mattie Pattison Paddock Memorial Scholarship. McLellan, a Mead High School graduate, is the daughter of Daniel and Jane Bonogofski, Spokane.
The Spokane Branch of the National League of American Pen Women recently elected Mary Kienholz, author of “Police Files: The Spokane Experience, 1853-1995,” as president.
Other officers elected are: Florence Boutwell, vice-president; Barbara Francis, treasurer; and Ruth Dannar, secretary.
