Cda Passes Emergency School Levy
With attendance up from last year, the Coeur d’Alene School Board approved a $396,846 emergency levy Wednesday to pay for more personnel and classroom supplies.
The average daily attendance for this year is up about 120 students. The measure will levy property taxes at 13 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation and will cost the average taxpayer an extra $7.80 per year.
That’s down from last year’s emergency levy of $412,356.30, which levied about 13.9 cents per $1,000 in taxable value.
In 1996, the district approved a $221,076 emergency levy.
This year’s levy will spend $231,600 on 5.9 teaching positions, $100,000 on five support personnel positions, and $65,246 on classroom furniture and supplies.
State law allows districts to collect additional taxes without a public vote if school enrollment rises over the previous year.
