Yakima Meadows Gains Dates From Commission
The Washington Horse Racing Commission, meeting in Seattle on Wednesday, unanimously granted a request from Yakima Meadows, Inc., to amend its 1998-99 racing season.
Yakima Meadows will begin its season Oct. 10 instead of in late November. The meet will run 40 days, with live racing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 13, then Saturdays and Sundays until Jan. 18.
The request was unopposed by industry groups and formally supported by, among others, Lilac City Racing, a group of Spokane-area owners and trainers who seek to revive racing at Playfair Race Course. Trainer Bruce Wagar, speaking for LCR, said the Spokane group would prepare an application for a 1999 season at Playfair.
