Clam Survey Under Way

Razor clams

Eastern Washington residents with an interest in razor clam seasons are being encouraged to participate in survey being conducted by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department.

“We get a lot of calls from East Side people who want to be informed about clam seasons and rules,” said Doug Simons, department shellfish manager.

Issues such as the size of clam populations, management techniques, tribal co-management and upcoming license changes will be addressed at public meetings, all of which are scheduled this month in Western Washington.

People who can’t attend the meetings can respond to a survey on the agency’s Internet home page, Simons said. The address is: www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/ clamsurv.htm.

The state’s fall razor clam seasons have not yet been set.
