Two Idaho Students Enter Wwami Program At UI
Two local students have entered the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) Medical Education Program at the University of Idaho.
The students will spend their first year studying basic medical subjects at UI. Next year, they will move on to the University of Washington and complete their education there.
This program is designed to encourage students to take an interest in primary care and to establish practices in underserved areas of the participating states.
The students are Kama White of Moscow. She plans to be a physician in a rural area. Her parents are Kenneth and Karen White. Cheri Savage of Post Falls is the daughter of the late Greg and Betty Savage. She is interested in a career in pediatrics.
Debbie Kitselman, a registered nurse at Kootenai Medical Center’s pediatrics department, has been selected as the KMC Employee of the Month for September.
Kitselman has worked at KMC since 1989 and was cited for being an excellent nurse, doing an outstanding job filling in while her supervisor was on a leave of absence and for participating in the Humor Care Program, the Smile Squad.
Brock McLeod, son of Jim McLeod and Judith Sylte of Coeur d’Alene, graduated from Oregon State University in June with a degree in biology and one in environmental science and has begun the graduate program at OSU as a teaching assistant.
McLeod, a 1988 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate who received associate of arts and associate of science degrees from North Idaho College in 1994, spent the summer in the Bahamas working as a research diver for the Caribbean Marine Research Center.
