G-Prep Stops Mt. Spokane In Four Games
Kelsey Wesley served seven consecutive points for a 9-0 third-game lead as Gonzaga Prep (2-2) defeated visiting Mt. Spokane 15-9, 14-16, 15-5, 15-11 in a Greater Spokane League volleyball match on Wednesday.
G-Prep trailed the final game 11-10, but scored the final five points. Mt. Spokane (0-6) took the second game, although Sarah Everstine served four straight to cut into a 13-8 lead.
Prep’s Laura Bruya and Juliann Laney combined for 25 kills. Jen Wetzel, Jodi Hultquist and Faith Thompson combined for 19 MS kills.
Girls non-league soccer
Amy Solan scored G-Prep’s first three goals, including a 25-yarder in the opening minute, and the visiting Bullpups (3-0) defeated Lewis and Clark 4-1 at Hart Field. LC is 2-1.
Elsewhere, Lyndsay Drollinger took the ball away from a defender and scored from 22 yards with 2 minutes left in the second overtime as Mead (2-1) defeated Shadle Park 5-4 at Mead Junior High. Shadle (0-3) forced OT when Jamie Vanos scored in the final minute.
Rachel Lassman scored the first two goals and Courtney Lynn the final two as Ferris (4-0-1) defeated visiting Rogers 5-0. The Pirates are 0-3.
Tasha Warwick fed Megan Owen at 25 minutes as University (3-0) started its way toward a 3-1 win over visiting Central Valley (1-4).
Girls cross country
G-Prep defeated nationally ranked East Valley 25-30 in a non-league meet at Finch Arboretum. One running magazine ranked four-time defending state champ EV fourth in the West, 10th in the country.
