Mirabeau Y Project Is Delayed
After a frustrating series of delays in getting the Valley YMCA built, the YMCA of the Inland Northwest announced a delay of its own making this week.
Never mind a fall ground-breaking.
Construction of the Y facility at Mirabeau Point will start in February, YMCA officials said.
“It took longer than expected to resolve issues of access and road location at Mirabeau Point,” said Rich Wallis, executive director of the YMCA.
“This impacted the timing of elements related to the Y project, such as finishing the design work and securing financing, ultimately making a fall groundbreaking impossible.”
The anticipated opening of the center is now November of 1999.
“In many ways the benefits of avoiding a winter construction far outweight the disadvantages of the later start,” Wallis said.
The facility will include two pools, a gymnasium, exercise room for weight-lifting and aerobics, a drop in center for youth, climbing wall, babysitting room and saunas.
