Gladys Phillips Colville, Wash.
Funeral for Gladys Caroline Phillips, 86, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville. Graveside service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Phillips, who was born in Everett, died Sunday.
She graduated from Everett High School in 1930, and in 1937 she married W. Howard Phillips.
They moved to Seattle in 1941, and in 1962 they moved to the Colville area, where they founded the Lucky Heir Hereford Ranch, which they operated until Mr. Phillips’ death last year.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Aladdin Homemakers Club, the Good Sam Club and the Northside Grange in Seattle.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Phillips of McCloud, Okla., and Joyce Hare of Portage, Mich.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ora McRoberts Lynden, Wash.
Memorial service for Ora M. McRoberts, 91, will be at 1 p.m. today at Nooksack (Wash.) Valley Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McRoberts, who was born in Springdale, Wash., died Monday.
In 1945 she marred William McRoberts in Spokane and resided here until they moved to Lynden in 1995.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Spokane and the Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church.
Her husband died last January.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Holmes of Lynden; two brothers, Hiram Rhoads of Spokane and Lemar Rhoads of Soap Lake, Wash.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Robert Steury Spokane
Memorial service for Robert Lee Steury, 53, will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Chewelah, Wash., Mr. Steury died Tuesday.
He worked as an accountant in the electronics field for many years and was a Spokane resident for 10 years.
Survivors include a son, Robbie Steury of Portland; his mother and stepfather, Lyle and Marjorie Tuttle of Clayton, Wash.; two sisters, Carolyn Gilbertson and Ginger Johnson, both of Spokane; and a brother, Marvin Steury of Denver.
Ruth Miller Deer Park
Funeral for Ruth Jean Miller, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will be at the Springdale (Wash.) Community Cemetery.
Miss Miller, who was born in Springdale, died Wednesday.
She was a teacher for many years in the Springdale, Valley, Deer Park and Pasco school districts.
There are no surviving family members.
Gary Kight Spokane
Memorial service for Gary S. Kight, a former coach and teacher at Rogers High School, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rogers High School Fieldhouse. Bonnie Watson Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements Mr. Kight, who was born in Germany, died Wednesday from cancer. He was 41.
He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1975.
Mr. Kight received his bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University in 1980 and married Sheri Davis that year.
He received his master’s degree from Eastern Washington University in 1991.
Mr. Kight taught mathematics and coached basketball in Colstrip, Mont., for three years before returning to Spokane in 1983, when he began teaching at Rogers. At Rogers he coached basketball and tennis. He was the Greater Spokane League Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in 1989.
He served in the Coast Guard Reserve from 1976 to 1980.
He was a member and former elder at North Hill Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Stephanie and Jeremy Kight, both of Spokane; his father and stepmother, Henry and Kathy Kight, and his mother and stepfather, Jayneta and Jim Butler, all of Spokane; a brother, Kelly Kight of Spokane; two sisters, Jamie Kight of Spokane and Kathy Schoop of Kennewick; two stepsisters, Debbie Butler and Belinda LaBounty, both of Spokane.
Grace Robertson Spokane
Graveside service for Grace L. Robertson, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Riverside Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Robertson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sept. 2.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, E.F. Robertson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Gary Robertson of Chicago; a daughter, Gail Gebhardt of Deer Park; a brother, Dean Tilton of Spokane; and one grandchild.
Beverly Heinen Spokane
Funeral for Beverly A. Heinen, 73, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Wisconsin, Mrs. Heinen, died Tuesday.
In 1947 she graduated from Kahler Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., and moved to Spokane.
Mrs. Heinen began working at Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1956 and worked there for 30 years as nightshift nursing supervisor.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Nurses Association, the Women of the Moose and Job’s Daughters.
Her husband, John, died last month.
Survivors include two sons, Craig Lewis of Spokane and Brian Lewis of Klamath Falls, Ore.; three daughters, Dianne Baird and Sharon Lewis, both of Spokane, and Linda Bengson of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Thomas and Leon Heinen; a brother, Rodger Ekren of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Helen Burk Spokane
Funeral for Helen F. Burk, 72, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Burk, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Tuesday.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Lady Elks and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Fred; a son, Robert Herrington of Marysville, Wash.; a brother, Edward Barton of Uniontown, Wash.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Lawrence Mael Great Falls, Mont.
No service will be held for Lawrence Mael, 78. O’Connor Funeral Home in Great Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mael, a former Spokane resident, died Monday.
He was born in Broadview, Mont., and graduated from high school in Spokane.
He served in the Army as a brakeman on the military railroad in France and Germany during World War II.
In 1948 he married Bette King in Spokane.
He worked for the Great Northern Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad for 32 years. He retired in 1981.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Great Falls.
His wife died in 1993.
He is survived by a brother, Vernon Mael of Spokane.
Anson McDirmid Spokane
Memorial Mass for Anson McDirmid, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Walla Walla. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Herring Groseclose Funeral Home in Walla Walla is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McDirmid, who was born in Colville, died Aug. 20.
He graduated from Rogers High School, and in 1946 he married Marian Beaulieu in Spokane.
They later moved to Walla Walla where he worked as a postal carrier before retiring in 1976. He moved back to Spokane after his retirement.
Mr. McDirmid was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
His wife died in 1971.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret McDirmid, Kathleen Kituri and Susan Clancy, all of Spokane, and Patricia Smith of Seattle; four sons, James McDirmid of Spokane, Stephen McDirmid of Newport, Wash., Dennis McDirmid of Vicksburg, Miss., and Michael McDirmid of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Stacy Frazier Hayden
Memorial service for Stacy Thomas Frazier, 50, will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 8500 Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Frazier, who was born in Havre, Mont., died Wednesday.
He lived in Coeur d’Alene before moving to Sunnyside, Wash., where he lived for 33 years.
Mr. Frazier moved to Hayden recently to be near family.
Survivors include his parents, Sam and Katherine Frazier of Hayden; four brothers, Cal Frazier of Grandview, Wash., Marshall Frazier, and Gareth and Leamon Flansburg, both of Montana; and two sisters, Bess Taylor of Coeur d’Alene, and Diane Bates of California.
Norma Holdren Spokane
Visitation for Norma J. Holdren, 79, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Holdren, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Clifford, died in 1965.
Survivors include two sons, Charles and Allan Holdren, both of Spokane; a sister, Ruth Sample of Salem, Ore.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Harry Fisk Ione, Wash.
An informal memorial gathering for Harry Vernon Fisk, 69, will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the Newport (Wash.) Hospitality House. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fisk, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.
He was a truck driver for Roundup Grocery Co. for many years.
Mr. Fisk was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife Bernice; two daughters, Pamela Jahn and Terri Garpestead, both of Spokane; five sons, David and Steven Fisk, both of Spokane, Douglas Fisk of Priest River, Idaho, Kenneth Fisk of Polson, Mont., and Donald Fisk of Houston; a sister, Eileen Kuckuck of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cirilo Sumangil Spokane
Funeral for Cirilo P. Sumangil, 74, will be held at a later date in San Francisco. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Colma, Calif. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sumangil, who was born in the Philippines, died Monday.
He graduated from college in the Philippines and then worked as a legal assistant for the Philippine National Housing Authority.
He came to the United States in 1981 and in 1986 moved to Spokane.
Mr. Sumangil was the co-owner and operator of the Downtowner Motel in Spokane for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Adelaida; a son, Adel Sumangil of San Francisco; a daughter, Zenaida Delena of the Philippines; three sisters, Amparo Flores, Himaya Aurelio and Alicia Soberano, all of San Francisco; and a brother, Angel Sumangil of the Philippines.
Helen Koznek Spokane
Visitation for Helen Dorothy Koznek, 76, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Koznek, who died Sept. 12, was born in Alberta.
She retired from the housekeeping department at Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1989 and was a member of the 7th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include four daughters, Lois Caputo of Clearfield, Utah, Nadine McIntire of Las Vegas, Donna Lachaga of San Jose, Calif., and Margaret Stockman of Covington, Wash.; a sister, Alice Cunningham, and two brothers, Elton and Stuart Smith, all of British Columbia; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
