Banquet For Waterfowl
Ducks Unlimited
Annual dinners, lively auctions and evenings of camaraderie have boosted the social lives of duck hunters and made a huge contribution to the livelihood of ducks.
Primarily through small fund-raising banquets scattered around the nation, Ducks Unlimited has raised more than one billion dollars to enhance and restore 7.5 million acres of habitat in more than 15,000 wetland projects, according to officers at the national headquarters in Tennessee.
The secret is in revving up the enthusiasm of hunters in local communities ranging from big cities to outposts such as Republic, Wash.
Spokane-area chapters already have held their fund-raisers this year. But many other opportunities are scheduled this fall for wetlands supporters to chip in. Among them:
The Colville Chapter has scheduled it’s banquet for Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Colville Elks Lodge. For reservations, contact Jim McGowan, (509) 684-6033.
The Republic Chapter banquet is set for Nov. 13. Info: Jim Schumacher, (509) 779-4347. The Bonners Ferry Chapter Banquet is Nov. 13. Info: Dan Pennington, (208) 267-0614.
