Late Goal Lets Chiefs Scramble For A Tie

Mason Wallin scored with seconds remaining Sunday at Kennewick, giving the Spokane Chiefs a 4-4 tie in a roughly played preseason hockey game with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

After the Chiefs pulled their goalie to put an extra attacker on the ice, Wallin redirected Dan Vandermeer’s shot from the right point between the pads of Seattle goaltender Cody Rudkowsky at the 19:43 mark of the third period.

The late goal allowed the Chiefs to rebound from two quick T-Birds scores.

Spokane had scored the first, third and fifth goals to take a 3-2 lead on Ben Johnson’s score just before the 7-minute mark of the third. However, David Kaczowka hit the net for Seattle at 13:24 and again at 15:10.

There were seven game misconducts for each team.
