Carter Inks Pact With Fox

The Hollywood Reporter

Writer-producer Chris Carter has signed a lucrative multiyear television development and production deal with 20th Century Fox that includes an agreement with the studio’s motion picture division.

The four- to five-year deal - valued in the $25 million to $30 million range - calls for Carter to develop new series.

The first is set to debut on Fox in fall 1999.

He’ll continue to executive-produce “The X-Files” for the next two seasons and “Millennium” through at least this season.

All told, the exclusive agreement puts Carter at or near the top of the list of the industry’s highest-priced writer-producers.

The award-winning Carter, whose “X-Files” airs in more than 50 countries, is likely to collect $5 million to $6 million annually, industry sources say.
