Ccs Wins Showdown With Big Bend

Kortney Stewart led the way with 16 kills Wednesday night as Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Big Bend CC in a showdown of NWAACC Eastern Division volleyball leaders at Spokane Falls Community College.

CCS raised its conference record to 3-0 by defeating Big Bend 15-8, 15-8, 12-15 and 15-11, leaving the Chieftains with a 2-1 league mark.

Jacque Willsey added 11 kills for the Sasquatch (6-6). Cydny Edmunds contributed 15 digs.

Whitman College (6-5, 3-2), climbed above the .500 mark in the Northwest Conference standings with a 15-8, 9-15, 15-9, 15-11 victory at Whitworth (2-9, 1-4).

Men’s soccer

Gonzaga University outshot Oregon State University 18-7 and played the final 55 minutes short-handed as the Bulldogs battled the Beavers to a 0-0 tie in two overtime periods at Gonzaga.

Gonzaga (3-3-1) lost the services of Matt Blasdel 65:26 into the match when he was called for his second yellow card, which carries an automatic ejection.
