Zeppelin, Nirvana Receive Awards
Two additional titles from Led Zeppelin and a Nirvana album have garnered Diamond Awards, the newly announced honor given by the Recording Industry Association of America to artists who have achieved certified U.S. sales of 10 million copies or more for an individual release.
Sixty-five titles spanning four decades have qualified for the Diamond Award. Led Zeppelin’s “Houses of the Holy” and “Led Zeppelin II” are the latest to reach Diamond status. The band’s landmark untitled fourth album was previously awarded at 17 million. The group is only the third act, following the Beatles and Garth Brooks, to earn three or more Diamond albums.
During March, Nirvana’s “Nevermind” climbed to the 10 million level. It is one of four alternative rock albums at the 10 million mark, alongside U2’s “The Joshua Tree,” Pearl Jam’s “Ten” and Green Day’s “Dookie.”
